Short version: this site keeps two small notes on your device so it can remember your language and the answer you gave on this page. If you also accept counting, we get to see which pages and which knitwear people look at. Nothing is counted unless you accept it, and the site works the same either way.

Who we are

This site belongs to Halil Çiçekdal, who trades as VertaKnit, in Maltepe, Istanbul. In the language of the data protection law we are the ‘data controller’, which simply means we are the ones who decide what is collected and who answer for it. Write to info@vertaknit.com about anything on this page.

What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a tiny note a website leaves in your browser so it can recognise something next time. This site also uses your browser’s own memory, which does the same job. We call both of them cookies here.

Some disappear the moment you close the browser, others stay for a while. Some are left by us, others by a company whose service we use. The table below says which is which.

What we use, and what we do not

The ones the site needs. Two of them. They remember your language and your answer here. They cannot be turned off, because turning them off would mean forgetting both every time you click a link.
The counting ones. Google Analytics. These stay off until you press Accept all. They count visits and show us which pages and which pieces hold attention, and you can turn them off again whenever you like.
Advertising ones. None. No ad networks, no social media trackers, nothing that follows you to other sites, and we do not sell anything to anybody.

The last two are only created once you accept counting. If you do not, they are never created at all.

Why we are allowed to do this

For the two the site needs, the law lets us keep them without asking, because you cannot really have the site without them. That is the ‘legitimate interest’ rule in Article 5 of Law No. 6698.

For the counting ones we ask first. They are only used after you press Accept all, which is the explicit consent the KVKK guidance on cookies asks for. You can withdraw it whenever you like, from the link at the bottom of every page, and nothing about the site changes when you do.

Does anything leave the country

If you accept counting, yes: Google handles those numbers on its own computers, which may be outside Türkiye. If you do not accept, this never happens. Google Analytics does not keep your IP address, and we leave every one of its advertising features switched off. Without your consent, nothing about your visit leaves your device.

Changing your mind takes one press and costs you nothing: every page, every photo and every word works the same either way. There is a link at the bottom of every page, or use this one:

What you can ask us for

Article 11 of Law No. 6698 gives you the right to ask us:

whether we hold anything about you, and if so, what;
why we collected it, and whether we are using it for that reason;
who else has seen it, here or abroad;
to fix it if it is wrong or incomplete, and to tell anyone we shared it with;
to delete it once there is no longer a reason to keep it;
to object if a machine alone reached a conclusion about you, and to be compensated if we broke the law and it cost you.
